“Derde Verde’s songs depict open skies and barren lands with a wide-open lonesome sound, something that might inspire familiar feelings for fans of The Shins and Grizzly Bear. Some tracks slip into psychedelic rock; others are more sparse and reflective…. The echoes and percussion somehow evoke a particularly Midwestern isolation—flat lands, empty skies—but the song soon leaves the planet completely for something more cosmic…beautiful and nostalgic.” — Geneva Trelease (LA RECORD)
"...a warm blanket of sustained soundscapes, with atmosphere and edge. The record is carried by shoegazy Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine - like little walls of distortion, while guitarist and singer Dylan McKenzie intermittently reminds of Elliott Smith in a fragile way. Here and there simple-dissonant and elsewhere playfully harmonic. The threads of the elaborate arrangements disperse in a delicate chaos of synths, loops, and guitar, converge with the rhythm section and ultimately present very fittingly the acoustic image of the meandering river through the Californian Val Verde." - (TRUST Germany)
“...psychedelic soundscapes expansive, and sometimes droney and electro-baked, shoegazing. And their new single “Days of Drought” is a refinement of all that, a transportative mediation… while McKenzie’s voice soars, almost capable itself of bringing rain." – Kevin Bronson (BUZZBANDS.LA)
"...stirs up something unknown... It’s a push-pull of a message, resisting what’s to come and begging to hold on to the present... the three piece have proven nothing but capable as becoming indie’s next darlings. Members Jon Schwarz and Matthias Wagner fuse their instrumentals elegantly with McKenzie’s poignant vocals, forming a place for us to lay down in the tall grass and listen to Derde Verde do their stuff." — Virginia Croft (ALT CITIZEN)
"...a noise pop tour-de-force with a wall of guitars... you will be totally drawn in." — INDIE POP-UPS
'Meander Belt' EP is a collection of songs that draws on themes of loss, fear, love, longing, and transformation. The EP was recorded and produced by Derde Verde in their warehouse space above a flower shop in Downtown Los Angeles. They developed the new songs as a trio while on tour in support of 2013's 'Let Me Be A Light', before taking them into the studio and crafting atmospheric layers of loops, synths, and ambience around the live arrangements. The lyrics move from intimately personal confessions, to the surreal imagery of the subconscious. The title refers to the movement of a river stream, as it shifts its channel from time to time, or in times of flood... a metaphor for the landscape of the self, something that seems constant and permanent, but is also never the same: flowing and changing, contradicting itself, twisting and transforming.

We toured with Large Bodies in 2010, and became great friends. Excellent vibe, psychedelic, and emotionally intense. Can't wait for this record to be released. Derde Verde
